The football gods blessed us with one of the best weeks of football last Saturday, so no slate could live up to it. The sport giveth, and the sport taketh.
That said, I have picks on my three favorite games of the weekend, and I’ll see if I can keep avoiding some trap games.
#6 Indiana (-7.5) @ Michigan Total: 42.5
Indiana looked horrible at home last week, and now they have to go on the road to face a Michigan team that seems to have found something on offense after benching Bryce Underwood for Tommy Carr.
Still, Carr threw only 9 passes in the second half, so are we overreacting to his performance because of how horrific the Underwood era was at Michigan? On the other hand, Ohio State’s defense is legit and made Josh Hoover look more pedestrian than he actually is. If Indiana and Turbo Richards can find any rhythm on the ground, I think the Hoosiers win big. Also, Cignetti will be looking to remind people that Indiana can still win the Big Ten, and might run up the score.
Pick: Indiana -7.5
#7 Ole Miss @ #19 Texas (-3.5) Total: 53.5
I can’t get Texas running the ball right down Ohio State’s throat out of my brain. They bullied them off the football field and now look incompetent on the ground. On the other hand, after a terrible performance against Florida, Ole Miss has rebounded beautifully and is back in control of their destiny.
This game is simple for me. Arch Manning is a bad quarterback, and Trinidad Chambliss is the best in college football. When this offense is fully healthy they’re the by far best in the nation. With what we’ve seen from Texas the last few weeks, I just can’t trust them to keep up if it turns into a shoot out.
Pick: Ole Miss +3.5 and o53.5
#14 Houston @ #10 Utah (-6.5) Total: 56.5
Houston rewarded me last week for being their only believer, and once again I think they’re being wildly undervalued on the road. More so, what has Utah done to be considered a top 10 team?
Conner Weigman had the best game in his entire career, stealing a shootout win over Oklahoma State. Utah on the other hand has looked uninspiring in conference play. Houston’s defense is probably the best Devon Dampier has seen all year, and every time the pressure has been dialed up for him, he hasn’t seemed to rise to the occasion. Houston is the most underrated team in the country and I think they pull of the upset on the road.
Pick: Houston +6.5
