The Montreal Canadiens are having a fine start to the 2026-27 NHL season. Cole Caufield and his teammates are looking to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In outdoor conditions on Sunday, Caufield was a big star for the Habs against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Canadiens defeated the Jets 2-1 in the Heritage Classic at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg. Caufield provided an assist on both goals scored by the Habs. After the game, he made quite the claim about his team that could cause quite the divide across Canada.

“Best fans in the league; they travel very well. We might be Canada's favorite team. You can tell by tonight. Very lucky to play in these games, super fun,” he told TNT Sports on Sunday.

The Canadiens opened the scoring in the second period on Sunday night. Caufield delivered his first assist to defenseman Lane Hutson, who scored an incredible goal. Montreal then followed that up with a tally from defenseman Kaiden Guhle to make it 2-0.

Winnipeg found a goal for itself in the third period. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't enough. Habs netminder Jacob Fowler was a wall in the crease on Sunday night. And the Canadiens were able to clinch a big win outdoors.
