Manchester United have been urged to consider bringing back former assistant manager Kieran McKenna if Michael Carrick is sacked.
The Red Devils boss is under growing pressure following back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Brighton.
United following up their loss in the Manchester derby by exiting the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Their 3-2 defeat to the Seagulls marked the first time they had lost a home match after leading by two goals for 50 years.
Another defeat away at Fulham on Saturday will only further add to the speculation surrounding Carrick's future.
Who should replace Carrick?
Discussing who could replace him in the Old Trafford dugout, talkSPORT's Alan Brazil has thrown a surprise name into the mix.
The former United forward believes McKenna should be considered for the role.
Speaking on Friday's Breakfast show, Brazil explained: "I think Kieran McKenna. People seem to forget about Kieran.
"He will come back into football, heâÂÂs very, very bright and started at Man United."
Asked if McKenna is the answer, he added: "I donâÂÂt know. I donâÂÂt know what the answer is to Man United."
How has McKenna fared in coaching?
McKenna spent five years with United after first joining the club as a scout in 2016.
Following a spell in charge of the Under-18s side, he became an assistant manager under Jose Mourinho.
The Northern Irishman later worked under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Carrick and Ralf Rangnick before leaving the club in 2021 to take charge of Ipswich Town.
During four-and-a-half years as Tractor Boys boss, McKenna won three promotions, including two to the Premier League.
However, he is currently without a club after leaving Portman Road to take a break from football in June.
McKenna had held talks with Fulham before making the decision, with the Cottagers subsequently appointing Alvaro Arbeloa.
How has Carrick performed at United?
A return to United would see McKenna replace Carrick in the dugout.
The former England midfielder was placed in caretaker charge by the Red Devils in January following Ruben Amorim's sacking.
Carrick went on to win 12 of the remaining 17 matches to guide United to a third place finish and Champions League qualification.
He was rewarded with the permanent job on a two-year deal in May.
However, his honeymoon period appears to have come to a dramatic end at the start of this season.
United have already suffered three defeats in all competitions, with just one win from their opening four Premier League matches.
