The Los Angeles Clippers are amid another turbulent stretch in the aftermath of the salary-cap fiasco involving former star Kawhi Leonard and team owner Steve Ballmer.

The Clippers are trying to pick up the pieces and remain competitive in the upcoming season, even though the odds are stacked against them.

The Clippers named John Gibson as interim governor and chief executive officer while Ballmer is serving his one-year suspension. Following his appointment, Gibson released a five-minute video to reassure the fans that the team is keen on putting the brouhaha in the rearview and making internal changes.

“We gather at an important moment in our history. Every successful organization faces defining moments. Moments that provide an opportunity to move forward with renewed purpose,” said Gibson.

“I appreciate how far we have come. I respect the work that built this organization, and I'm excited about the future we will create together.”

He added that he has followed the Clippers for two decades, touting the squad's “growth” and “resolve.” He also underscored the need for better transparency, especially since it became a major issue for the team regarding the partnership deals for Leonard.

“We will build on our culture of compliance. Excellence requires accountability. We will continue working closely with the NBA to ensure strong compliance systems, effective oversight, and the highest professional standards throughout our organization,” added Gibson.

Before joining Los Angeles, Gibson was a well-respected trial lawyer. Ballmer nominated Gibson to spearhead the Clippers, with the NBA issuing approval on Monday.

The Clippers will lean on the core of Brandon Ingram, Darius Garland, Bradley Beal, Brook Lopez, Rui Hachimura, Kris Dunn, and Derrick Jones Jr.

Last season, they missed the playoffs after tallying a 42-40 record despite Leonard averaging a career-high in scoring at 27.9 points.
