Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are hoping to make up for their disappointing loss to Virginia Tech against Florida State. However, both teams took a moment to think about something other than the game after offensive lineman Elyjah Thurmon suffered a serious head-to-head collision.
Clemson's entire team went onto the field in concern for their teammate, while Florida State players also took a knee as Thurmon was getting treatment. Thurmon was eventually carted off the field, and he was able to raise his right hand to give a thumbs up to the applauding crowd.
The offensive lineman was trying to block during a running play early in the second quarter. But as several players converged onto the ball, he was hit in the head and was unable to get back up.
Thurmon is in his third year at Clemson. After appearing in 11 games in his first two season, he has featured in seven of the team's first eight games.
Despite the concern of seeing one of their teammates carted off with a serious injury, Clemson was able to rally and take a 23-10 lead into halftime. They scored 13 points in a row after Thurmon's injury thanks to two field goals and a Tait Reynolds touchdown pass to Olsen Patt-Henry.
Like Florida State, Clemson is desperate to pick up the win amid a disappointing season thus far. Apart from a victory against North Carolina, they don't have any other quality wins to speak of. Nevertheless, Dabo Swinney will be looking to finish the season strong and hopefully get more recruiting wins in the process.
