With the Clemson football team taking the loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies, 20-16, it marks another disappointing result in this current season for the Tigers. As Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney leads the program, he would speak on the speculation surrounding the team's play-calling duties.
While the Tigers have been struggling on offense, a lot of blame has been thrown at offensive coordinator Chad Morris, as when Swinney was seen with a play sheet, he was asked if he called plays for the team in the second half.
“Considering he was on the sidelines with a play sheet, did Clemson coach Dabo Swinney call plays during second half of Virginia Tech game? Dabo: ‘I always have a play sheet. Always have.' Says he just doesn't always actively have it in his hands, but it's around/near him,” Chapel Fowler of The State Newspaper wrote Saturday on X, formerly Twitter.
Quarterback Tait Reynolds would start the game and finished with 153 yards to go along with no touchdowns and interceptions, as Swinney was asked if there was a thought to go to Christopher Vizzina at all, which the coach denied.
“Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says senior QB Christopher Vizzina was available and fully healthy tonight vs. Virginia Tech,” Fowler wrote. “Did he consider going to Vizzina at any point in the game over freshman QB Tait Reynolds? Dabo: ‘No, no.'”
Clemson football's loss will “leave a scar”
Article Continues BelowThe Clemson football team's loss to the Hokies brings the Tigers to a 4-3 record and 2-2 in conference play, as there is no doubt about disappointment from Swinney after the loss, as he expressed Sunday.
“Obviously really disappointed with the outcome of the game. It was a game that we had plenty of opportunity to win it, and we did not. I’ve been in a lot of games over the last 18 years, a bunch of good ones but also some tough losses along the way. Some of those losses leave a scar. This one will leave a scar,” Swinney said via On3 Sports.
Swinney and the Tigers look to bounce back on Saturday against Florida State.
