The Kansas City Chiefs survived an incredibly close game in Week 2. Kansas City narrowly defeated Indianapolis in overtime to emerge victories with a score of 33-30. The Chiefs are now 2-0 on the season and look like their old selves again for the first time in years. It helped that one of their most iconic players turned back the clock for one game.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had an incredible performance against the Colts on Sunday Night Football. He logged nine receptions for 101 receiving yards and a touchdown on 11 targets.
Kelce is now close to making NFL history after another great game. He tied legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski with his 27th career game with 100+ receiving yards and a receiving touchdown, per ESPN's Insights. Gronk and Kelce are tied for the most of those performances in NFL history by a tight end.
That means that Kelce only needs to repeat such a performance one more time stand alone in the NFL history books.
Nobody could be happier about Kelce's achievement than Taylor Swift. The sensational singer-songwriter was at Arrowhead for her husband's big game.
ESPN Insights also noted that Kelce's 128 yards after contact this season are his most ever after just two games.
Kelce has remained consistent over the past few years despite appearing to lose a step after the 2022 season. He has yet to go over 1,000 receiving yards since 2022, but he is now on pace to accomplish that feat once again this fall.
Kansas City's offense has changed a lot since then. But the addition of Kenneth Walker III could be the change Kelce needs to have another great season. That is especially true because this could very well be Kelce's last season playing in the NFL.
It will be exciting to see if Kelce can continue stringing together big games throughout the season.
