Mansoor Delane's NFL debut felt like a movie scene. In just his third snap of his career, the Kansas City Chiefs cornerback picked off Bo Nix for his first ever interception in the league. Unfortunately, that would the last we'd see of the former LSU cornerback in Week 1: Delane hurt his shoulder after being tackled, and he was eventually ruled out of the game.

Andy Reid did not give a concrete update on Delane after the game, which made fans a little concerned about the rookie's status. Mike Garofolo's recent report will not help ease their anxiety. The NFL insider said that he received a few texts about the Chiefs cornerback's injury. While some of these texts were optimistic, some were a little more cautious. Garofolo reports that Kansas City is hoping that Delane suffered a sprained shoulder, but there will be no definitive answer until tests are made.

Garofolo added this about Delane as well.

“More on Delane: X-rays were negative last night and the shoulder was stable,” Garofolo wrote on X. “The initial concern was he’d suffered the same injury that had him sidelined in the spring but again, the hope is it won’t be a bad one for the #Chiefs rookie CB.”

Garofolo referenced Delane's shoulder injury that he suffered this spring, just before the Chiefs started their mini-camp. The rookie cornerback missed some time in the offseason and was limited in training camp, but he was able to practice with full contact before the start of the 2026 season. Reid had high praise for the rookie cornerback during training camp.

“You can see the athletic ability, the feet, the instincts,” Reid said, per Nate Taylor. “He's not afraid to stick in there. He's got physicality. You can see the talent.”
