The Kansas City Chiefs lost their second game in a row last week, and things may have gone differently if Harrison Butker was able to nail one of his field goals. The kicker missed a 54-yard field goal with almost two minutes remaining in their game against the Denver Broncos, and they were able to score a touchdown right after.

With the Chiefs signing Justin Tucker to their practice squad just a few days ago, head coach Andy Reid noted that Butker would still kick in their next game against the New York Jets despite the miss. More recently, special teams coach Dave Toub shared his confidence level in Butker going into the next game.

“My confidence level was good because he made four kicks; he nailed them,” Toub said. “The extra points and the field goal. And we had good confidence in him. He makes these kicks. Harrison Bucker makes a ball from the 36-yard line. He makes that kick. Coach made the call. I was all in with it.

“Had he made it, we would be sitting here going, ‘Hey, Bucker's back.' You know? It's a confidence thing.”

Toub then explained how they can get Butker back into a groove.

“You start with practice, you try to put them in those situations, you create hard kicks, you move them around where he's having trouble, and you work on that,” Toub said. “You talk to guys; we have Tucker here, who's an experienced guy. You talk to other people out there. You exhaust every possibility to get this guy right, and that's what we're doing right now. We're not just gonna pull the plug on him.”

It'll be interesting to see what Butker can do against the Jets, but if he continues to miss, there's a good chance Tucker may slot in for him as the starting kicker.
