Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy shared an encouraging update on his wife, Mia, revealing that her recovery from a shooting incident earlier this year is progressing well.
Speaking to reporters Thursday ahead of the Chiefs' Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos, Bieniemy said Mia has been doing well in rehabilitation and recently joined the team's wives' trip to Seattle.
“She's doing great,” Bieniemy said, via Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest. “She actually went on the trip this weekend, she was on the wives trip. She was a rock star, obviously. I was just a has-been. She's doing great. Her rehab has been going great.”
He also joked about having his wife around during her visit to Kansas City, saying he was probably getting on her nerves.
Mia was hospitalized in July after being shot at the family's Virginia home. Their son, Elijah, was arrested and faces three felony charges.
Bieniemy stepped away from the Chiefs during training camp to be with his wife before returning on August 10. Bieniemy has been an integral part of the Chiefs' success over the years, and the organization gave him the time and space he needed to be with his family. He previously credited Mia for encouraging him to rejoin the team as her recovery progressed.
With Mia continuing to recover, Bieniemy can take comfort in her progress while balancing his coaching duties with the Chiefs.
