The Miami Dolphins suffered a 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. With the loss, Jeff Hafley’s team continued its difficult start to the season, dropping to 0-3. Despite Miami’s struggles, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had plenty of praise for Hafley and the way his players have responded under his leadership.
During his postgame press conference, Reid was asked about his conversation with Hafley following the game and explained that he specifically weighed in on the Dolphins’ effort and discipline throughout the matchup.
“One mentioned to him was his guys play hard, and play hard every snap. It means they're listening and trusting him, and that's a positive that he can build on. He's a sharp guy,” Reid said.
The Dolphins may not have the same level of talent on paper as the Chiefs, yet Miami’s players continued to compete with intensity and refused to let the score dictate their effort. However, the Dolphins ultimately could not prevent Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs from delivering key plays when they mattered most, extending Miami’s losing streak to three games.
The absence of RB De’Von Achane also proved costly for Miami, as he suffered a knee injury on the opening drive and did not return to the game. With Achane sidelined, Ollie Gordon II was forced to handle much of the rushing workload and finished as Miami’s leading rusher with 17 carries for 41 yards.
For the Chiefs, Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Rashee Rice was Mahomes’ leading receiving target, recording seven receptions for 88 yards. With the win, Kansas City improved to 3-0 on the season.
Kansas City will next face the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday. Meanwhile, Miami will hit the road to take on the Minnesota Vikings with the hope of securing its first win of the season.
