The Los Angeles Rams had a strong start but a weak finish against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, absorbing a last-minute loss, 30-26, at Empower Field at Mile High.
The Rams blew a 16-point lead and allowed the Broncos to explode for 30 points in the second half, including Bo Nix's game-winning leaping touchdown with 47 seconds left.
Los Angeles dropped its first assignment on the road and fell to 1-2, while Denver improved to 2-1.
Coach Sean McVay was likely irate in the locker room after the painful defeat. When asked about McVay's message, Aaron Donald was not in the mood, as reported by ESPN's Sarah Barshop.
“I don't really know right now. I'm a little upset. I just want to watch this film, get over it, and move on to next week,” said Donald.
The Rams will visit the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.
Donald, who played in his second game since coming out of retirement, had one tackle and one quarterback hit.
Matthew Stafford went 30-of-55 for 390 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He was sacked four times. He was also not in the mood when asked to comment on the narrow loss.
“I mean, it's a tough one,” said Stafford, as quoted by the Associated Press' Arnie Melendrez Stapleton.
It was extra costly for the Rams, as they lost Jaylen Watson in the first half due to a shoulder injury. Puka Nacua was still sidelined due to a hip injury.
The Rams became only the 11th team in league history to lose despite logging at least 480 yards on offense and allowing 260 or fewer yards on defense.
