With the Los Angeles Chargers starting 0-5 on the season and the offense down in the dumps, there could still be some valuable fantasy football usage to take advantage of with the team. As the Chargers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6, this NFL insider has some fantasy football advice when it comes to the team's running backs.
A popular draft-day pick for fantasy football managers was running back Omarion Hampton, and while Keaton Mitchell is the player behind him, league insider Dan Graziano says Kimani Vidal is “emerging as a real factor” for Los Angeles. While seeing little to no usage in the first three weeks, it progressed to five and eight carries in Weeks 4 and 5.
“He [Vidal] didn't have a carry or a target in either of the Chargers' first two games of the season, and he had one carry and three targets in Week 3. But over the last two weeks, Vidal has carried the ball 13 times for 82 yards and been targeted five times in the passing game. Over that same time, Omarion Hampton has 23 carries for 78 yards and three targets while Keaton Mitchell has 16 carries for 50 yards and 10 targets,” Graziano wrote.
The Chargers “could start unloading players soon”
While Graziano gets the wariness of someone from taking a player from the slumping Chargers, the insider would say that the team “could start unloading players soon,” which could make Vidal's opportunity continue to go up, no matter his situation.
Article Continues Below“Running back is a tough position in fantasy, and Vidal had success last year when thrust into the feature back role and is now taking on a larger role for a 0-5 team searching for any answers it can find,” Graziano wrote. “There are worse fliers to take on your fantasy waiver wire this week than Vidal. The Chargers could start unloading players soon, and depending on how that goes, he could find himself in an improved situation — there or with another team.”
It remains to be seen what Los Angeles decides to do with its team as the team looks to avoid being 0-6 on Sunday against the Chiefs.
