The Los Angeles Chargers at Seattle Seahawks Week 4 matchup included Ladd McConkey injury news and tough road trip for coach Jim Harbaugh's team. The Chargers headed in without guard Kayode Awosika and witnessed yet another key injury to starting tackle Joe Alt in a losing first half effort.
The Chargers' official X account shared the news on Alt as the second half began nearing its start in Seattle.
“Injury update: Joe Alt (neck) is questionable to return,” the account wrote.
Alt had big expectations heading into this season but hasn't quite matched them, along with fellow bookend tackle Rashawn Slater. The former first round pick nevertheless is a key piece of the Chargers' Mike McDaniel-led offensive attack and one of Harbaugh's biggest hopes for a mid-season turnaround.
Article Continues BelowAlt's absence was felt by the Chargers as they went down 20-6 at halftime and Los Angeles' Justin Herbert-led group allowed two sacks, punted five times and turned the ball over three times, with two of those coming on interceptions. The Seahawks had 190 total yards at halftime compared to 92 for the Chargers.
Alt is one of Herbert's best protectors and a naturally talented tackle with great athleticism and lateral quickness for his position. He was one of Harbaugh's most important draft picks in 2024 as he was taken with the fifth overall pick out of Notre Dame.
The Chargers continued to flounder on offense against the Seahawks both with and without Alt as the running game and passing game were anemic. Harbaugh and McDaniel didn't envision such a poor start, and they didn't envision losing Alt, either. The Chargers were forced to continue without him with no word on a possible return as of halftime, a grim development considering the many holes they've dug for themselves already this season.
