It has been a rough season for Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers, to say the least.
Los Angeles Rams defensive back Quentin Lake added to the Bolts' misery when he rubbed salt in the wounds of Herbert and company following the Chargers' 24-9 loss on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
During a recent appearance on the St. Brown Podcast, Lake said that Herbert “was throwing deli meat out there” and that the quarterback was “seeing ghosts.”
On Wednesday, Herbert addressed those comments from Lake, who picked off the former Oregon Ducks star quarterback in the first period of the aforementioned game.
“We’re really just focused on what’s going on in this building and playing football,” Herbert said on Wednesday, via Noah Furtado of The Athletic. “Anything outside of that is out of our control.”
The Chargers were coming off a bye when they faced the Rams, but whatever optimism they gathered during that long rest was snuffed out in their loss to Lake and company.
Herbert went 24-of-42 for 257 passing yards but had zero touchdowns and was picked off twice. Apart from Lake, Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie also got an interception at Herbert's expense.
The 28-year-old Herbert has 1,398 passing yards and five touchdowns against 10 interceptions so far in the 2026 NFL season — his seventh in the league..
The Chargers are still winless through eight weeks, and they will carry a 0-7 record to their next game, a showdown against CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans on Sunday at home, hoping that it's where their drought finally ends.
