It was announced on Tuesday that Boston Red Sox star pitcher Garrett Crochet will be on the American League Wild Card roster. There were questions about whether or not Crochet would be available due to injury, but manager Chad Tracy reportedly said that including Crochet was not “an overly difficult decision,” according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN.

Tracy also addressed how Crochet may be used in the series. While the manager confirmed that the southpaw is available on Tuesday for Game 1 against the New York Yankees, Tracy did not reveal his specific plans for Crochet.

“We'll see. He's very available tonight,” Tracy said, via Castillo. “It will be read-and-react after that. But not closing the doors on anything.”

Crochet had been dealing with a shoulder injury. The 27-year-old appeared in only six games with Boston this season. He made his Red Sox debut last year after beginning his career in Chicago with the White Sox, and turned in a stellar 2.59 ERA across 32 starts en route to finishing second in American League Cy Young voting.

Despite being limited in 2026, the Red Sox still managed to reach the postseason following a dreadful start to the year. Having Crochet available — even if he primarily works out of the bullpen as opposed to starting games — should provide the team with a boost in the postseason.

Updates on Garrett Crochet will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available. It would not be surprising to see him make an appearance in Game 1 against the Yankees.
