The Boston Celtics stumbled out of the gates on Tuesday afternoon with an ugly road loss to the Detroit Pistons, blowing a 22-point lead in the process. Jayson Tatum's rough performance drew the majority of the headlines in this one, but he wasn't the only Celtics player who struggled to make things happen, as it was also a poor debut for big man Mitchell Robinson.

Now, Robinson has spoken on his disgust with the way he played against the Pistons.

“I just felt like I was just playing trash the whole time. … I'm obviously one of the best defensive bigs in this league and I didn't show it that night,” he said, per Celtics on CLNS on X, formerly Twitter.

Robinson totaled just four points and three rebounds in 18 minutes of action in the loss, not doing much to stop Pistons big man Jalen Duren from getting what he wanted in the paint. At one point, Robinson went down with an apparent ankle injury, but thankfully, it didn't end up being anything serious.

Robinson was the Celtics' biggest free agency addition this offseason, having come over from the defending NBA champion New York Knicks this summer and giving Boston a big boost in terms of frontcourt depth and rim protection. As he pointed out, he is widely viewed as one of the elite defensive big men in the NBA today, and he'll certainly be eager to show that when the Celtics next hit the floor on Friday evening against his former Knicks team.

Tipoff for that game is set for 7:00 pm ET from the TD Garden in Boston in what will be the team's home opener for the season.
