The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series. Milwaukee booked a ticket to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1982 after sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. Former Brewers star pitcher CC Sabathia gave Christian Yelich a shoutout after the series-clinching win on Thursday.

“So happy for Yelich too…started this turnaround in 2018, established the culture and stayed committed. World Series bound. Much respect,” Sabathia wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

CC Sabathia did not spend much time with Milwaukee, but his impact was immense. He was traded from Cleveland to the Brewers during the 2008 season during his contract year. The left-handed pitcher turned in a stellar 1.65 ERA across 17 outings with the ball club. While he helped the Brewers reach the postseason, the Brewers fell short of their World Series goal.

Sabathia signed with the New York Yankees during the offseason.

Almost 10 years later, a player by the name of Christian Yelich was traded from the Miami Marlins to the Brewers. Yelich immediately won the NL MVP in his first season with the team. In total, he has made three All-Star appearances while also leading Milwaukee to the postseason six times.

Yelich, similarly to Sabathia, made an instant impact upon being acquired by the Brewers. The difference is that Yelich has stayed with Milwaukee and was even named captain of the team before the playoffs. Sabathia went on to have a tremendous remainder of his career in New York with the Yankees, playing a significant role in the 2009 World Series victory.

Yelich is hoping to become a World Series champion as well. The Brewers will play either the Tampa Bay Rays or Cleveland Guardians in the 2026 World Series.
