The Montreal Canadiens are 4-3-2 on the season, sitting tied for sixth in the Atlantic Division. Still, they have hopes of returning to the playoffs this season after making a run to the conference finals last season. The Habs have already been dealing with plenty of injury concerns this year. The Canadiens have been without Ivan Demidov for much of the season, as he is dealing with a lower-body injury.

Now, the team is dealing with another injury to a star forward, per an announcement from the team.

“Forward Nick Suzuki (upper body) will be out for two to four weeks,” the Canadiens announced on X, formerly Twitter.

Suzuki was injured when he blocked a shot with his hand late in the game against the San Jose Sharks. He did not speak to the media after the 4-3 overtime loss as he was receiving treatment. The injury will also end his consecutive games played streak, according to Eric Engels of Sportsnet.

“The iron man streak for Suzuki ends at 546 games. Has never missed an NHL game before,” Engels posted on X.

Suzuki currently has the second-longest active iron man streak in the NHL at 546 games. He is behind Brent Burns of the Colorado Avalanche, who has played 1017 straight games. Burns could break Phil Kessel's record of consecutive games played this season.

Meanwhile, Suzuki has never missed a game in his NHL career. He was drafted with the 13th overall selection of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights, but was traded to the Canadiens before making his NHL debut. He made his debut with the Canadiens during the 2019-20 season, playing all 71 games that year. Since then, he has played a total of 546 straight games, including 82 games in five straight seasons. In that time, the Canadiens captain has scored 172 goals and added 316 assists. He has five goals and seven assists in nine games this year.

The Canadiens will return to the ice for the first time without Suzuki on Friday night when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks.
