New York Yankees star pitcher Cam Schlittler is likely going to win the American League Cy Young Award. The right-hander has been phenomenal in 2026. Schlittler's regular season came to an end after allowing one earned run across three innings during Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, and he will finish the year with a sparkling 1.95 ERA. According to Sarah Langs, Schlittler is the fourth pitcher in Yankees history to finish a season with an ERA below 2.00, joining Ron Guidry (1.74 ERA in 1978), Spud Chandler (1.64 ERA in 1943) and Ray Caldwell (1.95 ERA in 1914).

The 25-year-old hurler displayed potential across his first 14 MLB outings in 2025. It looked like the Yankees could have a future star pitcher in their rotation. Sure enough, Schlittler turned in a 1.95 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 239 strikeouts in his 33 outings this season. He has established himself as one of the best pitchers in the entire sport.

Other starting pitchers such as Dylan Cease and Parker Messick enjoyed strong seasons in the American League, but Schlittler is probably going to win the Cy Young.

As for the Yankees, New York already clinched a postseason spot. They will not win the AL East this year, as the Tampa Bay Rays clinched the division. The Yankees are going to be the No. 1 AL Wild Card team, meaning they will host whichever ball club clinches the No. 2 Wild Card seed (it will likely be the Boston Red Sox) in the Wild Card round of the postseason.

New York has one more series to play before the postseason, as the ball club will host the Baltimore Orioles for three games this weekend.
