The New York Yankees got a strong start from the ever-reliable Cam Schlittler on the mound in their series opener against the Boston Red Sox in the MLB Wild Card Round.
Schlittler was dealing during his stint on the hill in Game 1 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, lasting 6 1/3 innings, while allowing zero earned runs and only two hits. He issued just a walk and struck out a total of 10 Red Sox hitters, doing them all in 117 pitches.
If his total pitch count in Game 1 seemed like something that hadn't been touched by a Yankees pitcher in a playoff game for a long time, it's because it hadn't.
