It seems to get even rougher for the Chicago Bulls by the day. On Wednesday, they lost to the New York Knicks 135-105, another double-digit defeat for a young team led by vibrant rookie Caleb Wilson.
Wilson managed just 5 points, going 5-for-15 from the field and 1-for-7 from the 3-point line. A far cry from his flourishing start, when he put up numbers in bunches.
After the game, Wilson seemed disgruntled with the loss, especially after saying he didn't get the ball enough early, per Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic.
“I mean, today I didn’t really get the ball much to start the game. …. When I get the chance to, hopefully I can be aggressive.”
It was a game where each Bulls player scored, something that hadn't happened before.
Meanwhile, the Bulls are off to a 1-7 start and face the daunting task of hosting the powerful Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. The 76ers defeated them 126-107 on Monday in Philadelphia.
Wilson is averaging 19.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Even though the team hasn't stormed out of the gates with full force, he has, and then some.
As the franchise player, Wilson understands the expectations. Furthermore, Wilson has a mature mindset that sets him apart. His wisdom beyond his years is combined with a strong sense of determination.
He is determined to prove he is the real deal. The question is whether everyone else can meet him where he is.
The Bulls will tip off against the 76ers at 2:30pm CST/3:30pm EST at the United Center on Sunday.
