The Chicago Bulls hit the ground running this week to kick off their preseason practice. One of those who were ready to get in on the action was newly acquired shooter Buddy Hield.

In practice, Hield put on a clinic, going 23-for-25 from the 3-point line. Before hitting the floor, Hield was given a threshold to meet. But then he wanted to up the ante.

“The goal is you have to make 20 out of 25,” Hield said. “I got 23. The goal is always to make 25 out of 25, but I'll take 23; fight another day. You only get one try, though. So if you don't make it on your first try, you're done.”

After going 23-for-25, Hield then symbolically hit the gong while celebrating that drill after going through the rigors of practice.

“I love that drill,” he said. “It keeps you mentally focused after practice. Lock in. It's a fun drill, man. Shooter's mentality always.”

The week before last, the Bulls traded Rob Dillingham for Hield, who previously played for the Charlotte Hornets. Hield's addition to Chicago is being praised because he brings shooting depth, which the Bulls need.

Last year, Hield played seven games with the Hawks. He averaged 5.1 points per game, while also shooting 48% from the field and 41.2% from the 3-point line.

Overall, Hield brings much-needed outside shooting to a young roster. He has a career 3-point percentage of 39.5%.

The Bulls will begin the preseason on Wednesday, Oct. 7, against the Phoenix Suns at the United Center. Their first regular-season game is Oct.21 against the Toronto Raptors on the road.
