On Sunday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dropped to 0-4 on the young 2026 NFL season with an ugly home loss to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 17-14. The Buccaneers played this game with Jalon Walker under center at quarterback thanks to Baker Mayfield's recent injury, and the team's injury issues only got worse as the afternoon wore on.

Now, the team has gotten a tough update on a key member of their defense in the aftermath of the loss.

“#Bucs S Antoine Winfield Jr. has a rib fracture and is likely to miss 2-4 weeks, coach Todd Bowles said,” reported NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.

Wilfield Jr. has been a stalwart of the Buccaneers' defensive backfield for the better part of a decade now, playing a key role in their 2020 championship win over the Kansas City Chiefs and remaining an elite player over the ensuing years.

Soldiering forward without him will certainly make life even more difficult for a defensive unit that has already been taxed from an injury perspective so far this year.

Still, the majority of the Buccaneers' issues are currently on the offensive side of the ball, as the team had been struggling to sustain drives well before Mayfield went down with injury.

Making matters worse is the fact that Tampa Bay will now have a short week to get themselves situated before they hit the road to take on the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 8:15 pm ET from Texas.
