The Cleveland Browns (3-1) and the New York Jets (1-3) meet Sunday at MetLife Stadium with the two teams heading in opposite directions through the first month of the season. Cleveland enters Week 5 riding a three-game winning streak and tied for first place with the Ravens in the AFC North, while New York, losers of three in a row, sits in third in the AFC East.

Last Thursday Cleveland knocked off Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers, 27-24. The Browns led most of the game, but Pittsburgh tied it late in the fourth. Deshaun Watson’s career renaissance reached another level as he drove the Browns into field goal range. Andre Szmyt drilled a 56-yard field goal to produce the final score and Cleveland’s third straight win. That drive marked Watson’s third fourth quarter drive this season that resulted in the Browns taking a lead. Cleveland’s defense forced a couple of turnovers and continues to be a playmaking group.

The Jets, meanwhile, failed to make plays in their 23-12 loss last Sunday to the Bears. Truth be told, they didn’t run many plays. New York ran an astonishingly low 32 plays on offense in the game. Take a minute and digest that. Know the Bears had 34 first downs and ran 89 plays. New York held the ball for only 17:15 on the afternoon. After being competitive in each of the previous three games, the Jets were a no-show Sunday.

As bad as the Jets were last week, New York is favored by 2.5 points. That underlines one of the biggest storylines Sunday. Can the Browns continue to turn heads around the NFL and extend their winning streak in the process? Can Geno Smith and the Jets put last week in the rearview mirror and get back in the win column? They were competitive the first three games and arguably should at least be 2-2…but they aren’t. If they lose again, how long can the calls for Aaron Glenn’s dismissal be ignored?

These teams last met last November. The Browns defeated the Jets 27-20 on November 9.

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Our model calculates projections around each moneyline, spread and over/under bet for every game on the NFL calendar based on data points like past performance, player matchups, betting trends, and weather forecasts.

Once the model is finished running, we put its projection next to the latest betting lines for the game to arrive at a relative confidence level for each wager.

Here are the best bets our model is projecting for Sunday’s game between the Browns and the Jets:

  • Moneyline: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Moneyline
  • Spread: NBC Sports is leaning towards a play on the Browns +2.5.
  • Total: NBC Sports is leaning towards a play on the Total UNDER 39.5.

Here’s why the UNDER is worth a look:

Each team is dealing with injuries and also missing a key piece or two due to injury. The Jets are missing Breece Hall and dealing with a wrist injury to Geno Smith. The Browns’ offensive line is banged up with the availability of both Teven Jenkins and Elgton Jenkins questionable as of Tuesday.

Even when healthy, each of these teams struggles to score. The Browns average barely over 20 points per game while the Jets average 19 points per game. The Jets’ offense that ranks 32nd in passing yards and 32nd in yards per pass attempt. The Jets’ defense has been solid this season, allowing just 21 points per game, but they don’t create takeaways. The Browns’ defense does turn over their opponent, but the offense fails too often to sustain drives. In a game with two struggling offenses, two quality defenses, and a banged-up skill position group on both sides, this has all the makings of a low-scoring rock fight.
