The Denver Broncos got a big win on Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams, and it came down to the final minutes of the game. With the Broncos' offense having the ball, they drove down the field and could either tie the game with a field goal or score a touchdown. It was third down, and the refs called pass interference against the Rams, which led the Broncos to get closer to the end zone and eventually score a touchdown.
Pat Bryant was the person who was held up on the call, and after the game, he was asked if he sold the call to get the first down.
“It was a little pass interference,” Bryant said. “I did sell it just enough to get the flag, but he definitely gave me a little nudge that I felt, and I felt like I couldn't get the ball, so it was either the ball or the call. And we ended up getting the call.”
Bryant did what he needed to do to help get his team the extra yards and a touchdown, and it helped them win the game in the end. There was controversy surrounding the call, and head coach Sean Payton spoke about how he approaches those kinds of calls.
“Each week when these things come up… The longer you get in this thing, the less you discuss penalties,” Payton said. “You just got to go out and play. I've yet to see one get changed either way. You hope that when the game's over with, the season's over with, you're on the positive side of the ledger. I focus a little bit more on the penalties that we can control relative to pre-snap, post-snap, those types of things, but that's really where I sit with it.”
