Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy had no intention of turning a missed interview request into a controversy. After learning that the team had declined an opportunity for him to speak with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, Murphy took matters into his own hands — and the result was a pretty hilarious story.

Russo recently expressed his frustration after the Brewers reportedly told his producer that Murphy's schedule was too busy for an interview ahead of the World Series. The longtime sports broadcaster made his displeasure known, questioning why Milwaukee could not find time for him despite his decades in the business.

Murphy, however, was initially unaware of the commotion.

“I’m not on social media, Twizzler, or Instacart, whatever.” 😭

“I get blasted on my phone. I am not on social media, Twizzler, or Instacart, whatever,” Murphy said as the media laughed. “But sure enough, I get texts, ‘Great job, Russo is a jerk.’ I am like, ‘What are they talking about?’”

Once Murphy realized what had happened, he decided to make things right rather than let the situation spiral.

“I got to Mike, I am like, ‘I don't want to tell that guy no,’ So we called him and did the show right then. We FaceTimed,” Murphy explained.

The story fits Murphy's personality. The Brewers skipper has never been afraid to use humor, and his response made it clear that there was no personal issue with Russo. Instead of allowing a scheduling decision to become a distraction, Murphy turned the situation into a funny anecdote before the biggest series of Milwaukee's season.

Now, the Brewers can turn their attention back to baseball.

Milwaukee opens the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, with former Brewers pitcher Drew Rasmussen scheduled to face Jacob Misiorowski, who is the leading contender for the National League Cy Young Award.
