Pat Murphy and the Milwaukee Brewers took their World Series celebration to New York for a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” and the Brewers manager ended up rubbing elbows with some Hollywood heavyweights after the show.
Murphy, Christian Yelich and Brice Turang crashed the “Weekend Update” segment on Saturday, with the Commissioner’s Trophy in tow. Murphy told Bobby Moynihan’s recurring Drunk Uncle character, “I’m the manager, and that’s kind of like being the drunk uncle of the team.”
Murphy skipped the official afterparty, but he still found himself in some star-studded company. Speaking on “The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Murphy revealed that he spent time with Lorne Michaels, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams.
“We all went up in Lorne Michaels’ office with Yelich and Turang, and we just sat there,” Murphy said. “Seven of us sat there, no beverages, just sat there and conversed.”
Pat Murphy didn't go to the SNL after party but he did get the chance to talk to Tom Hanks, Stephen Spielberg, JJ Abrams and Lorne Michaels.

Murphy even left Hanks with a souvenir.
“I gave Tom Hanks my game hat from the World Series,” Murphy said. “And he said, ‘I’m not taking it off. I’m wearing this. So it’s going to get paint on it. It’s going to get garbage on it. The next time you see it, it’s going to be dirty. I’m not putting it on a shelf.’”
Hanks also had a professional reason for keeping an eye on Murphy.
“Hanks, he’s going to be a pitching coach in a movie or something like that. So he said he was studying my mannerisms,” Murphy said. “And he goes, ‘Ah, I really didn’t get much from you. You just have the same face for nine innings.’”
Article Continues BelowThe conversation also touched on Murphy’s viral comment about the New York Yankees. A hot mic caught Murphy calling them a “horses**t Yankees team” while joking with first baseman Jake Bauers during the on-field celebration after Milwaukee’s title-clinching Game 5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Michaels, a big Yankees fan, discussed the moment with Murphy, who made sure to clarify his respect for Aaron Boone.
“Aaron Boone, I’ve gotten to know him, and I really, really like him,” Murphy said.
It has been quite a week for Murphy, who guided the Brewers to the first World Series championship in franchise history.
