The Atlanta Braves are trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in the National League Division Series following their 3-1 loss to LA in Game 3 on Tuesday. Yoshinobu Yamamoto deserves credit for his stellar outing on the mound. However, this Braves lineup has been underwhelming for most of the postseason. Ronald Acuna Jr.'s play has been especially disappointing.
A change is needed to give the offense a spark. Moving Acuna down in the lineup seems like the obvious choice, but there's a problem.
For the most part, everyone else in the lineup is struggling. The only Braves who are swinging the bat well at the moment are Michael Harris II and Ozzie Albies. Tuesday's lineup saw Drake Baldwin lead off with Acuna batting second. Matt Olson, Albies and Harris followed in the lineup in that order.
Could the Braves simply move Harris to the No. 2 spot in the batting order? It would be an intriguing idea, but it would also make the top of the lineup extremely left-handed heavy.
Albies would make more sense since he's a switch-hitter. He could hit between Baldwin and Olson, who are left-handed. Harris could realistically move to the No. 4 spot with Acuna being moved down to No. 5 in the lineup.
Article Continues BelowHitting fifth still provides legitimate RBI opportunities, though. Moving Acuna down even further seems like it could work given his underperformance, but there are not many other strong candidates to move up in the lineup. Mauricio Dubon could make sense since he's enjoyed some quality moments in the series, but you probably still trust Acuna more overall given his track record.
Moving Ronald Acuna Jr. down in the lineup is probably the Braves' best option for Game 4, but it realistically may not happen. Keeping him between Baldwin and Olson splits the lineup up well, and it keeps Albies and Harris in good spots to drive runs in.
