Currently with Dana White's Zuffa Boxing, professional boxer Edgar Berlanga has been arrested. The 29-year-old is currently facing charges following an alleged domestic dispute with the mother of his child. The incident resulted in his arrest on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, in Polk County, Florida.
The charges of domestic violence aggravated battery and domestic battery against him arise from an alleged event on Oct. 18, 2026. The mentioned felony charge can result in a prison term of up to 15 years.
As per the police report filed by Lakeland Police Department and court documents obtained by TMZ, Berlanga and his baby's mother were driving when they got into an argument, shortly after visiting a gun range. The woman alleged that Berlanga “began hitting her with an open hand” and then “retrieved a pistol” and “struck her in the forehead” with the handle end of the weapon.
According to the report, Berlanga then grabbed her left arm while she tried to exit the vehicle. The woman was then able to escape and take refuge in a local convenience store before the police arrived.
The report further claimed that the woman then went to a local health care clinic for medical attention, where the responding officer noticed “swelling and bruising on her forehead” caused by Berlanga, along with a torn shirt and “an apparent bruise on her left inner arm.”
As per court records, Berlanga appeared at the Bartow Courthouse on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, where his bond was set at $16,000. His next court appearance is an arraignment hearing Nov. 17, 2026.
With Zuffa Boxing, Berlanga is a veteran boxer and has fought several top names, including Canelo Alvarez. Boasting a record of 24-2 in his professional career, Berlanga unsuccessfully challenged Alvarez for the WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles in Sept. 2024 in Las Vegas.
