With the Milwaukee Brewers preparing for the 2026 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the team is looking to achieve the highest level for the first time in its history: winning the championship series. As the Brewers are in the World Series for the first time since 1982, the family of legendary broadcaster Bob Uecker sent a message to the fanbase and the team ahead of the big series.

Uecker started as a player with Milwaukee from 1962 to 1962, and after retiring from the game, he became a broadcaster for the team in 1971 and continued until 2024, compiling an iconic career. He would unfortunately pass away in January of 2025 at 90 years old and with the Brewers making it to the World Series, saying that the “day has come” for what Milwaukee fans have been waiting for.

“Generations of Brewers fans have held hope in their hearts, season after season, that someday this city would have its chance at another championship, the Uecker family wrote. “Milwaukee is special. Its people are special. Our team is special. We are filled with elation and pride, but also longing. A wish that Bob was here to see it, too. While we could never speak for him, this is certain: Milwaukee, the Brewers, and the fans meant everything to Bob.”

How Brewers fans kept Bob Uecker's spirit alive

The Uecker family's statement continued in shouting out the players on the Brewers, saying that they “carried the city with you every time you took the field, making memories that will last a lifetime.” Further saying that Bob Uecker “would have been so incredibly proud of what you've accomplished.

The statement also expressed excitement for manager Pat Murphy, the coaching staff, the Attanasio family, and the current broadcast team for honoring Uecker.

Ending with the fans, the family said that they “kept Bob's spirit alive-through a laugh, a story, a cold beer, or a favorite call.”

“We feel your love for him every day, and our family is forever grateful,” the family wrote.

Game 1 of the World Series between the Brewers and Rays starts on Friday night.
