Portland Trail Blazers center Yang Hansen could face another season of limited playing time, even if he remains fully healthy. The former first-round pick has yet to secure a regular spot in the team's rotation.
The 21-year-old was selected 16th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, but his first season offered few opportunities to establish himself. Hansen averaged 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds across 43 games while playing just seven minutes per appearance.
His role remains uncertain heading into the 2026-27 campaign. According to a report shared by HoopsHype, the young center could continue seeing limited minutes despite being available to play.
Portland already has Donovan Clingan in its frontcourt, creating competition for opportunities at center. Hansen must show he can contribute consistently before earning a larger share of the rotation.
During the Trail Blazers' preseason victory over the Golden State Warriors on October 7, Hansen played 12 minutes and scored six points. His appearance came entirely in the fourth quarter, after he had remained on the bench through the opening three periods.
That performance offered another glimpse of his potential, although preseason opportunities do not guarantee a regular role. Portland's coaching staff still faces decisions about how to distribute minutes among its big men.
Article Continues BelowThe former first-round selection remains a developing prospect rather than an established contributor. His size and passing ability provide reasons for optimism, but earning consistent playing time will require further progress.
For Hansen, staying healthy may only be part of the challenge. A larger role with the Blazers will depend on his development and ability to compete for minutes throughout the season.
