Fresh off a thrilling win Monday night in Los Angeles, the Buffalo Bills (4-1) head to Las Vegas on Sunday to take on the Raiders (3-2).

After a surprising 3-0 start, the Raiders have lost two in a row. They are still sitting seventh in the AFC and thus clinging to the final playoff spot, but a loss this weekend would increase the chatter in favor of benching Kirk Cousins in favor of Fernando Mendoza. Much like the Raiders, Cousins has been better than expected, but Mendoza was the first overall pick this past April and he is the future. Other than a hiccup against the Patriots, the Bills have been dominant. Averaging an NFL-leading 32.8 points per game, Josh Allen and the Bills are Super Bowl contenders despite allowing a little over 28 points per game.

Buffalo is coming off an exciting 37-34 overtime victory over the Rams on Monday night. Josh Allen delivered another signature performance, throwing for 210 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 121 yards and another score. Running back James Cook added 121 rushing yards and a couple touchdowns. The Raiders, meanwhile, are looking to recover from a disappointing 45-17 road loss to the Patriots. That defeat followed a narrow 30-27 setback against the Chiefs.

Few teams rely on their quarterback more than the Raiders and the Bills. Allen remains the centerpiece of Buffalo’s offense, entering Week 6 with 1,249 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and eight rushing touchdowns while continuing to be one of the league’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins has been outstanding for the Raiders, throwing for 1,269 yards and 12 touchdowns through five games. Cousins’ connection with tight end Brock Bowers has helped fuel one of the AFC’s more productive passing attacks, while Allen’s combination of mobility, arm strength, and big-play ability continues to make Buffalo a Super Bowl contender.

The top storylines center around whether the Raiders can slow Buffalo’s high-powered offense and whether Las Vegas can rediscover its early-season momentum against one of the conference favorites. These teams last met in Week 2 of the 2023 season. Buffalo dominated Las Vegas 38-10.

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Expert Picks & Predictions: Bills vs. Raiders

Please bet responsibly. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, call the National Gambling Helpline at 1-800-522-4700.

Our model calculates projections around each moneyline, spread and over/under bet for every game on the NFL calendar based on data points like past performance, player matchups, betting trends, and weather forecasts.

Once the model is finished running, we put its projection next to the latest betting lines for the game to arrive at a relative confidence level for each wager.

Here are the best bets our model is projecting for Sunday’s game between the Bills and the Raiders:

  • Moneyline: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Moneyline.
  • Spread: NBC Sports is recommending a play on the Raiders +6.5.
  • Total: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Game Total of 53.5.

Here’s why the Raiders +6.5 is the best bet:

The gap is narrower than the spread suggests. Buffalo’s offense ranks first in yards per play (7.11), first in points scored (32.8 per game), and first in third-down conversion rate (52.94%). The Raiders’ pass rush, however, ranks second in pressure rate (35.0%) and fifth in sack rate (7.5%). The Raiders’ offense has been the bigger surprise — ninth in points scored (26.4 per game) and ninth in passing yards (273.2 per game). The Bills’ defense ranks 31st in passing yards allowed (311.2 per game) and 29th in passing touchdowns allowed (2.6 per game). Buffalo should be able to score, but so should the Raiders.
