The Buffalo Bills will play their first-ever regular-season game at the new Highmark Stadium against the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. While fans and players alike are excited to kick off a new chapter in Western New York football, the natural grass field was a topic of concern in the preseason, with one player calling the field “a** right now.‘ Now that the field has been re-sodded, the Bills are ready to go.

“The Bills practiced on newly laid Highmark Stadium sod Tuesday. The players were happier with the results compared to the preseason,” ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports.

Head coach Joe Brady is also happy with the results of the sod replacement.

“I really don’t have many concerns with it,” Brady said, via Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News (H/T Pro Football Talk). “There wasn’t a lot of concerns with it the first go around with it in terms of there was stuff that was moving. I credit our leadership that I understand that they want to have the best surface out there and be able to make the decision and kind of go with it. But, yeah there’ll be no concerns come Thursday. Our guys are excited just to be on grass.”

Josh Allen and company will now play on this new field in a huge TNF matchup against the Lions. Buffalo is coming off an impressive Week 1 win vs. the Houston Texans, while Detroit had a shaky start after blowing a 21-0 lead against the New Orleans Saints before winning in overtime.

Kickoff in the $2.2 billion stadium is at 8 pm ET on Thursday on Amazon Prime Video.
