Josh Allen is out for blood again this season. After another colossal collapse in the postseason, the Buffalo Bills quarterback is ready to lead his team to that ever-elusive Super Bowl. Through the last two games, Allen has left destruction behind him. His performances to start the year set him up to potentially win another MVP award.
According to ESPN's graphic, Allen is the third quarterback to record at least nine passing and rushing touchdowns in their first two games. The other two quarterbacks to do this before the Bills star were Peyton Manning in 2013 (nine passing touchdowns) and Patrick Mahomes (ten passing touchdowns). Here's the fun part, though: both Mahomes and Manning went on to win the MVP award in that same season. That seems to be a good sign for the Bills this year.
Unlike Mahomes and Manning, Allen's scores came both from the air and on the ground. Of course, the Bills quarterback was excellent from the pocket. He threw two touchdowns against the Houston Texans in Week 1 and then three touchdowns against the Detroit Lions the following week. What makes Allen truly special, though, is his ability to get touchdowns on his own. He had four rushing touchdowns through two games, showcasing his ability to also run the ball.
The Bills are now 2-0 to start the season, and they've gotten their wins in impressive fashion, at least on offense. Against one of the best defensive units last season in Houston, Allen and co. dropped 36 points against them. Allen's statline in that game was impressive: 69% completion rate, 334 passing yards, 23 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns.
Now against a much-weaker unit in Detroit, they were once again dominant. The Bills punted just twice in the game and took control of the game for nearly the entire time. Allen finished with fewer passing yards (248). With the Bills' run game being so effective, Allen's passing prowess was not needed.
