The Chicago Bears put up a phenomenal offensive showing in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers. They ultimately won 59-37 and made history as the highest-scoring season opener in NFL history. In an interview with ESPN Chicago, Ben Johnson said that they could have gone for 60.

“At that point, I was open for 60. I was thinking a 2-point try at some point. At that point, I was open for 60. I was thinking a 2-point try at some point,” the host Jeff Joniak said to Johnson.

Johnson replied, “I don't think you're the only one.”

One of the key players to the Bears' explosive win was quarterback Caleb Williams. Williams finished the game throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns on 21 of 29 attempts. He also rushed for 69 yards on 10 carries and secured two touchdowns. In comments obtained by the AP on Sunday, Johnson said that he could tell that things were going to go well on Saturday night.

“I could kind of tell (Saturday) night when we did our quarterback meeting one last time that he was just on top of it,” Johnson said. “Everything he was rattling out, like where my eyes need to be and what I’m thinking. … So I went to bed and just slept really well.”

D'Andre Swift was also a key player in the team's victory, rushing for 124 yards with 18 carries and three touchdowns. Johnson also spoke highly of Swift in quotes obtained by the AP.

“He's had a good week, huh?” Johnson said. “He earned (the contract), every step of it. We really value what he brings to the table. He has had a great spring and I don't think anybody in our camp is surprised he is out of the gate in strong fashion.”
