The Chicago Bears' offense could not have played much better to start the 2026 NFL season, but don't tell Caleb Williams that.
After scoring a jaw-dropping 59 points in a Week 1 road win vs. the Carolina Panthers, the Bears should be feeling good. Williams, now in his second season with head coach Ben Johnson, is a bit of a perfectionist, though, and feels differently.
âÂÂThat's who we want to be this week. We got to go clean up. We want to be truthers,â Williams said, according to The Score's Chris Emma. âÂÂObviously, this is going to be our kind of worst game. I know points don't necessarily show that, but execution, the blocking, the penalties, all these different things.âÂÂ

On the ground, he also added 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns, which helped Chicago tally nearly 300 rushing yards. D'Andre Swift finished the game with 124 yards and three scores, while Kyle Monangai rushed for 100 yards, averaging 10 yards per carry, and one touchdown.
In Charlotte, the Bears offense gained 552 total yards for an average of 7.9 yards per play. But, to Williams' point, it wasn't a perfect game, as the Bears lost a fumble, allowed a pair of sacks, and found itself in third-down situations 14 times, five more than Carolina. Fortunately, Williams and Co. picked up the first down in all but four of those opportunities.
Next Sunday, the Bears open NFC North play with a home game vs. the Minnesota Vikings, who rallied to outscore the Green Bay Packers 29-3 in the second half of their Week 1 clash despite losing starting quarterback Kyler Murray to injury.
