The Bears won’t have running back Kyle Monangai for Sunday’s game against the Packers.
Head coach Ben Johnson told reporters earlier this week that Monangai’s thumb injury wasn’t a big deal, but a toe injury has turned out to be a bigger deal. Johnson said at his Friday press conference that Monangai is in a boot because of the injury and that he will miss the game as a result.
Monangai ran 30 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns in last Sunday’s 23-12 win over the Jets. Johnson said he is considered week-to-week moving forward.
The injury opens the door for D’Andre Swift to move back into the top running back role. Swift was benched after fumbling for the second time this season in the third quarter last Sunday and he said this week that his issues holding onto the ball are “over now.” With Monangai out, he’ll get a chance to prove that’s the case.
