On Sunday afternoon, the Chicago Bears hit the field for a road game against the Carolina Panthers to open up the season for both teams. Bears quarterback Caleb Wilson got off to a scorching hot start to this one, completing 12 of his 16 pass attempts in the first half for 196 yards and a touchdown, with Chicago putting up 31 points on the board in the frame.

In addition to his impressive counting numbers, advanced stats also shed light on how fast Williams was moving on the field in Carolina.

“Caleb Williams reached a top speed of 20.35 mph on his 9-yard scramble TD run, the third-fastest speed by a QB as a ball carrier since the start of last season (Williams also owns the top two speeds). Williams has reached 20+ mph six times since the start of last season. No other QB has more than two such plays,” reported Next Gen Stats on X, formerly Twitter.

On a later Williams scramble for a touchdown, they also reported that “Caleb Williams reached a top speed of 20.80 mph on his 29-yard TD run, the second-fastest speed of his career.”

Williams' speed and elusiveness have long been lauded dating back to his college days at USC, and they don't appear to have gone anywhere, even now that he has developed immensely as a passer and decision-maker in the pocket.

In any case, following the Panthers game, the Bears will next hit the field on September 20 at home vs the Minnesota Vikings for their first game at Soldier Field this season.
