The Atlanta Braves escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series thanks a clutch home run by Austin Riley. The third baseman came through with a three-run long ball late in the game to give Atlanta the lead after the ball club had been trailing 3-2. Phillies manager Don Mattingly's decision to leave Jhoan Duran in for an extra inning did not go according to plan, as Riley took him deep in the 8th inning.

Most importantly, the homer gave the Braves a crucial win. It also represented a historic feat for Riley, however. According to MLB Network, Riley now holds the record for the most go-ahead home runs in the 8th inning or later in Braves postseason history with three, surpassing Chipper Jones (two) and Javy Lopez (two).
