Texas football enters Saturday no longer holding down the No. 1 spot. Quarterback Arch Manning and company endured a turnover marred 27-24 loss to unranked Oklahoma. And that loss impacted Manning's NFL Draft stock.

Now The Ringer's draft expert Todd McShay rises as one believing Manning should avoid entering the 2027 class.

Already, McShay's former ESPN colleague Mel Kiper Jr. wrote a different take of Manning's value. McShay dropped this fierce take on why Texas should welcome him back.

“There’s still time to turn this season around. I’m more bullish on his NFL future than the social media doom suggests, but another college season currently looks like his best path,” McShay posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Manning has come under fire for showing up-and-down play amid his immense hype. He arrived as a five-star signing for coach Steve Sarkisian and company. Then immediately started to push Quinn Ewers for playing time as QB1 in Austin. Eventually, Manning managed to briefly win the starting nod in 2024 before Ewers won back the starting role.

But Manning endured a rough start to his 2025 season in losing the season opener against Ohio State. He managed to exact revenge in 2026 by erasing a 20-point deficit to win 24-23 with Texas during week two. But Manning once again tossed two interceptions against the rival Sooners, leaving the belief he must gain one more CFB season to become sharpened ahead of the NFL Draft.

Texas, meanwhile, fell down to No. 7 after taking the 27-24 loss inside the Cotton Bowl.
