Arch Manning apologizes for "insensitive comment" about AI video from Saturday's game

Saturday was a good day for Texas quarterback Arch Manning. Monday was not. On Tuesday, he moved to rectify an unforced error.

Via ESPN, Manning apologized for making an “insensitive comment” about an AI video that showed Texas coach Steve Sarkisian violently slapping ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe.

At a Monday press conference, Manning was asked if he’d seen any fan clips from the comeback win over Ohio State.

“I’ve seen a few AI edits of stuff, but that’s about it,” Manning said. “I saw an AI edit of Sark’s interview. Have y’all seen that one? That’s a good one. Of him slapping Holly Rowe? It’s hilarious.”

The remark sparked a backlash, given the jarring video of Sarkisian hitting Rowe.

Manning posted his apology on social media.

“In my press conference yesterday, I made an insensitive comment about an AI video,” Manning said. “There is nothing funny about it. It’s easy to say I didn’t mean it, but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people. I do not take that lightly and am deeply sorry for that.

“I specifically want to apologize to Holly Rowe for what she has personally had to deal with because of my comments. I have a ton of respect for her and appreciate her showing me grace in this moment. I need to do better and will be more thoughtful going forward.”

Rowe accepted Manning’s apology.

The unedited video was bizarre in its own right. Sarkisian waited to be interviewed by Rowe and stormed away before she could ask a question.
