Andros Townsend avoided serious injury after being run over by a pitch roller as he warmed up at half-time in Thailand.

The former Tottenham star, who now plies his trade in the Far East, was training during the break when the vehicle was driven directly into him.

Townsend currently plays his football in the Thai Premier League for PT Prachuap, who signed him in the summer.

However, during just his third league match since joining, he found himself involved in an extremely bizarre moment.

What happened to Townsend?

At half-time of PT Prachuap’s match against Pattani on Saturday, Townsend was warming up with his teammates.

But as he passed the ball around, a staff member at the stadium started to drive their pitch roller onto the surface.

And they ended up driving it directly into Townsend, who had jumped out of the area the players were training in to complete a flicked pass and accidentally stepped into its path.

The metal roller, which was driven extremely close to the training players, hit Townsend’s legs, knocking him to the ground with some force and driving on top of him.

The ex-England international’s teammates looked visibly shocked and concerned, rushing over to help out after the roller fortunately came to a stop before going any further than his hips.

Townsend, who somehow avoided injury in the shock incident, ended up playing just one minute of the match.

He had started his first two appearances in PT Prachuap, but was named as a substitute for their clash with Pattani.

His side ended up winning the game 3-0 – moving up to second place in the Thai Premier League.

Townsend’s time in Thailand

The 35-year-old has been playing in Thailand for over a year having first joined Kanchanaburi Power last summer.

He played 30 games for the top-flight side – scoring three goals and providing six assists altogether.

Kanchanaburi Power would go on to get relegated from the Thai Premier League though, leading to his exit.

Townsend departed and signed for PT Prachuap to remain at the top level, with Saturday’s clash his third appearance.

His playing days are still ongoing, extending his professional career to 17 years after starting off at Spurs.

He played for Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Everton, Luton and another 12 clubs, making 291 Premier League appearances in total.
