Alexis Lafreniere had quite a night on Tuesday for the New York Rangers. The former top overall pick found the back of the net not just once, not twice, but three times for a hat trick against the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Lafreniere completed the hat trick on an empty-netter with under two minutes left in the third period, as the Rangers came away with a 5-2 victory.

Lafreniere scored his first goal just 25 seconds into the second period off the assists from Mika Zibanejad and Vladislav Gavrikov for a 2-0 Rangers lead. The Islanders responded with back-to-back gioales to even the score at 2-2, but Oliver Bjorkstrand got the lead back fror the Rangers with a power-play goal with just around three minutes left in the frame.

Lafreniere's second goal of the night was also an empty netter late in the third frame. He couldn't pass up on another to cap off the game with goal No. 3.

Those goals were also the first ones scored in the 2026-27 NHL season by the 24-year-old Lafreniere.

As for the Rangers, they just keep on rolling.

After dropping their season opener in a shutout loss to the Boston Bruins on the road, the Rangers have won all of their games, going 4-0 along the way.
