Auburn opened up the season with a neutral-site game in Atlanta against Baylor. It was a tight victory for Auburn, as they won 17-16. This week, the Tigers played in front of their home fans for the first time, facing off against Southern Miss.

After the game, new head coach Alex Golesh talked about the atmosphere at Jordan-Hare Stadium, per Justin Hokanson of On3.

“Everybody said it was special and different and it is special and different. I have coached in this league and this place is really, really special,” Golesh said.

While Auburn took a 43-8 victory against Southern Miss, there were still things to clean up for the Tigers. They committed ten penalties in the game, including one that took a touchdown off the board. That frustrated Golesh.

“I was just so beyond disappointed in the sloppiness,” Golesh said postgame. “I was beyond disappointed in the block in the back on the punt return and then the fumble in the red zone, like just sloppy, sloppy, and I don't care what the score is, I don't. That's what I just told these guys. A win's a win, and winning college football games is hard, but if the standard is that, and that's what it looks like, then we're gonna have a really, really, really long season.”

The Tigers will need to clear up the mistakes fast, as they open up SEC play this upcoming week. Still, Auburn is 2-0.

“We'll take the win, again, grateful to our fans, but there's so many points offensively left out there it makes me sick,” Golesh said. “And we'll get it right, we'll get it cleaned up. There just needs to be a sense of urgency to clean it up.”

Auburn hosts Florida next week to open their conference schedule.
