Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson has a straightforward approach to dealing with the criticism and noise that come with social media: Sometimes, she simply puts down her phone.

Wilson discussed how she separates herself from online commentary when asked how she manages the increased role the internet plays in professional sports while still enjoying her life away from basketball.

“I kind of just put the phone away. Social media is not real, and I hate that because I sometimes feel like I rob my supporters of me,” Wilson said in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, by ClutchPoints via USA Sports. “But sometimes you know you got to put that phone up and live outside of that, and I think I've done that.”

Wilson acknowledged that distancing herself from social media can mean less interaction with her fans who support her. Still, she said stepping away allows her to focus on her relationships and life outside basketball.

“I've kind of disassociated myself, and I do miss it a little bit,” she said. “But I do also have fun just being around the people that I love. I love being a good daughter, a good girlfriend, and friends. So that's what I really enjoy off off the court. And I kind of have to take my phone away from that just so I can block out the noise a little bit.”

On the court, Wilson continues to lead an Aces team entering the final stretch of the regular season on a five-game winning streak.

The four-time WNBA MVP scored 30 points in Las Vegas' 98-77 win over the Seattle Storm on Sunday night. Wilson made 16 of 18 free throws and recorded the 49th 30-point performance of her career, moving within five of Diana Taurasi's record of 54.

Jackie Young added 23 points and eight assists, while Chelsea Gray scored 15 for Las Vegas.

The Aces improved to 29-13 and hold a one-game lead over Atlanta for third place. The top four teams receive home-court advantage in the best-of-three opening round of the playoffs.

Las Vegas will host the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night.
