The Philadelphia 76ers recently took part in media day as they get training camp underway for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season. The 76ers enter this season with legit title expectations after the signing of LeBron James and trade for Jaylen Brown this offseason.

One player who has at times become lost in all the headlines is last year's standout rookie VJ Edgecombe, who is still considered to be a big part of Philadelphia's future.

Recently, Edgecombe spoke on his level of confidence in himself playing alongside one of the game's all-time greats in James.

“We're holding each other accountable. We're teammates now… I told him he gotta switch. That's what happens. We're getting to know each other. It's a new system for him,” said Edgecombe, per Derek Bodner of PHLY on Bluesky.

It's certainly not a typical mindset for a young player now suddenly teammates with the arguable basketball GOAT in James, but Edgecombe has never been one to lack for confidence, dating back to his first game in the NBA, when he scored 34 points against the Boston Celtics to open up last season.

The 76ers ended up doing business with the Celtics after beating them in the playoffs this summer, acquiring Brown in exchange for Paul George and draft picks, and now, the team fancies itself a legit title contender with James, Tyrese Maxey, and Joel Embiid also in the mix.

It will be interesting to see how Edgecombe adjusts to becoming the fifth option after spending so much of last season as the team's secondary scoring threat behind Maxey.

In any case, the 76ers are slated to kick off their new season on October 20 on the road vs the reigning champion New York Knicks.
