The Philadelphia 76ers have had a hot start to the 2026-27 NBA season, currently sitting at 3-0 after a recent narrow home win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The 76ers played this one without LeBron James, necessitating a team effort from some of the other players on the team, including both Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.
Recently, Maxey got 100 percent real on one thing that sometimes frustrates him about the second-year guard, particularly when it comes to making plays at the end of games.
“I'm surprised when he doesn't do that. I get mad at him when he doesn't. “I tell him ‘Hey, go do that VJ stuff you do'. That's what I tell him. And that's what he does,” he said, per Derek Bodner of PHLY Sixers on Bluesky, via Hoopshype.
Indeed, Edgecombe has had a knack for coming up clutch so far throughout his young career, having burst onto the scene last year with 34 points in his first NBA game against the Boston Celtics and finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting last season.
This year, many fans suspect that Edgecombe will have to take a major backseat now that James and Jaylen Brown are on the team, and some have wondered whether or not that might stunt the young guard's developmental process.

In any case, the 76ers will next hit the floor on Sunday afternoon for a home game vs the Detroit Pistons.
