The San Francisco 49ers must address another issue involving Brandon Aiyuk as the wide receiver moves closer to NFL reinstatement. His two pending traffic cases in Santa Clara County remain open, adding another complication to an already uncertain return to football.
49ers insider David Lombardi reported that Santa Clara County records continue to list Aiyuk’s traffic cases as open. The legal issues stem from an incident in June, when authorities issued an arrest warrant after Aiyuk allegedly sped near Levi’s Stadium and shared footage of the incident on YouTube. The cases have yet to reach a resolution, adding another layer of uncertainty to his situation with San Francisco. Their status could also draw further attention as Aiyuk attempts to secure his NFL reinstatement and resume his playing career.

Aiyuk has already submitted the paperwork required to begin the reinstatement process. He plans to report to the 49ers’ facility Friday and is reportedly healthy and ready to play. However, submitting his application does not guarantee immediate reinstatement. The NFL must review his request before he can officially return, and San Francisco must then determine how to handle his contract and roster status.
The receiver has not played since suffering significant knee injuries in October 2024. His relationship with the 49ers deteriorated further in July 2025, when the team voided approximately $27 million in guaranteed money. San Francisco cited missed rehabilitation requirements and scheduled check-ins as reasons for the decision. Aiyuk subsequently landed on the reserve/did not report list after missing training camp.
Aiyuk’s future with the 49ers appears all but decided. Although a trade remains possible, San Francisco could release him following reinstatement, potentially ending a turbulent chapter with the franchise.
