The San Francisco 49ers are currently gearing up for their Week 2 matchup against the Miami Dolphins at home. The 49ers got off to a strong start to the season last Thursday, defeating the Los Angeles Rams in blowout fashion in a game that took place in Australia.

On Wednesday, the 49ers got a tough injury update regarding their tight end room.

“Roster moves: 49ers placed TE Jake Tonges on injured reserve, promoted WR KhaDarel Hodge to the active roster and signed TE Jack Stoll,” reported ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on X, formerly Twitter.

Injuries have long been viewed as the main thing holding the 49ers back over the last several years, and this development regarding Tonges certainly won't help in that department.

The 49ers got fellow tight end George Kittle back from his Achilles injury remarkably quickly, and it remains to be seen how long Tonges will be out.

Tonges appeared in San Francisco's opening game against the Rams but didn't record a catch on the evening.

Meanwhile, Hodge is an NFL veteran who previously played for the Atlanta Falcons and should give the team a boost in the wide receiver room.

Quarterback Brock Purdy experienced smooth sailing against the Rams' much-hyped defense on Thursday, having ample time in the pocket and finding his talented skill positional players frequently exploiting seams in the Los Angeles secondary.

The 49ers will now gear up for a game against the Dolphins, who many view as the worst team in the league, having been blown out by the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1.

The 49ers and Dolphins are set to kick off on Sunday shortly after 4:00 pm ET from San Francisco.
